ISUNGUR – Save Your Viking Village

Warriors, seafarars, great ships and mystery are the ingredients this an adventurous serious game for children and teeangers up to 14 years. The game „ISUNGUR - Save Your Viking Village“ is a point-and-click adventure that combines knowledge and fun. It takes the player on a journey to the Northern Europe of the year 845 and offers a completely new, entertaining and playful way of gaining insights into the fascinating culture of the Vikings.

The player‘s viking village was raided; important goods, inventories and the most precious sword of the clan leader were stolen. A hard winter is coming. How will the clan survive? The player finds himself in a Coming-of-Age Story in which he has to prove that he is not a child anymore and able to save his village. To complete his mission the young viking has to overcome some hurdles. The player has to compete in sword-fights, needs to navigate his ship according to cardinal points or has to find hidden objects in the stuffed hut of the crazy old warrior Leif. He needs to answer tricky questions posed by the seeress and the boat-builder and evaluate how precious his trading goods are to make the best profit. Will he eventually defeat the enemy? On his way the player will find different objects, which help him on his mission, e.g. a „sun stone“ or „dead sword“. He will get to know about the exciting true stories behind them. Within the different stages of the Story the player gets to know the fascinating culture of people we thought we know everything about. The Vikings were more than cruel raiders.

They were the best seafarer of their time, travelled across Europe and Asia with big dragon boats and operated in a global network of trade. The Vikings were also skilful craftsmen and sensitive poets, they attached great importance to cleanliness and enjoyed ice-skating. The web-based serious game combines documentary video material, mini-games, interviews, filmclips, pictures and short texts. The game can be used in schools, e.g. for a project week dealing with Nordic Men and Middle Age. „ISUNGUR - Save Your Viking Village“ will be available in German, English and Norwegian. We offer a completely new way to learn about the unknown side of the legendary people from the north by joining them with an interactive journey through history. Learning by playing!
